Community & Safety Guidelines
NearTeach is built on trust. Our platform exists to create genuine, safe, and productive connections between tutors and students in local communities. These Community Guidelines define the standards of behaviour we expect from every person who uses the Application. By using NearTeach, you agree to abide by these guidelines.
These guidelines apply to all content posted on the Platform, all communication within the in-app chat, all interactions between users, and all conduct arising from connections made through the Platform. Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent termination of your account.
1. Be Honest
Every user is expected to represent themselves truthfully and accurately. Your profile name must be your real name—no pseudonyms or nicknames that obscure identity. Your profile photograph must be a clear, recent photograph of yourself. Tutors must accurately represent qualifications, experience, subjects, and rates. Your location must reflect your actual neighbourhood. Reviews and ratings must be based on genuine experience; false reviews or incentivised reviews are strictly prohibited.
2. Be Respectful
NearTeach is a community of students, parents, and teachers from diverse backgrounds. Do not use abusive, threatening, harassing, or discriminatory language toward any user. Do not send unsolicited or repetitive messages. Do not post sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or offensive content. Do not make any communication or take any action that could reasonably cause another user to feel unsafe, intimidated, or uncomfortable.
3. Protect Your Privacy and the Privacy of Others
Do not share your personal phone number, email address, home address, or social media handles in the in-app chat before a match has been formally confirmed. Do not attempt to gather personal information about other users beyond what is displayed in their profile. Do not record, photograph, or document interactions without explicit consent. Do not share private communications or personal information about other users with third parties.
4. Keep Communication on the Platform
Until a match has been formally confirmed, all communication between users must remain within the Application. Do not attempt to move conversations to external messaging apps, phone calls, or other channels before confirmation. After confirmation, users may communicate through any channel they mutually agree upon; however, disputes or safety concerns from off-platform communication remain between the users.
5. Do Not Misuse the Platform
The Platform exists for one purpose: connecting students and tutors for home tuition. Do not use the Application to advertise unrelated products or services. Do not create accounts for data collection or research. Do not manipulate search results, ratings, or features through artificial or automated means. Do not create multiple accounts or use another person's account. Do not bypass the payment system or confirmation process.
6. Safety During In-Person Sessions
For in-person tutoring arrangements, NearTeach strongly encourages: parents or guardians present or nearby during initial sessions; sessions in a safe, visible, and appropriate environment; sharing session location with a trusted contact. Any conduct during an in-person session that causes concern should be reported to NearTeach and, where appropriate, to local law enforcement. In-person arrangements are outside the direct scope of the Platform; NearTeach is not responsible for conduct during such sessions.
7. Reporting Violations
If you encounter content or behaviour that violates these guidelines, report it through the report functionality within the Application or by emailing nearyou.teach@gmail.com. We review all reports and take appropriate action.
8. Enforcement
NearTeach enforces these guidelines at its sole discretion. Consequences may include: a formal warning; temporary suspension; permanent termination without reinstatement; forfeiture of active subscription without refund; or a reinstatement fee for suspended accounts. NearTeach reserves the right to take immediate action without prior warning in cases involving serious violations, including threats of harm, sexual misconduct, fraud, or conduct that endangers user safety.
9. Updates to These Guidelines
These Community Guidelines may be updated from time to time. Significant updates will be communicated through the Application. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of the current guidelines.
